Our story · Founded 25 June 2026

Kerala coffee deserves to be known.

കേരളത്തിന്റെ കാപ്പിക്കഥകൾ

A shared belief brought a roaster and three producers together: Kerala’s coffees deserve to be recognised for their quality, their origins and the people who make them possible.

Why we came together

The coffee was here. We wanted more people to see its potential.

Kerala has long been a coffee-growing state. For the founders of Kerala Origins, the question was how to turn that contribution into greater recognition for individual farms and the coffees they produce.

They saw an opportunity to bring producer knowledge and roasting experience into the same conversation: to taste carefully, understand what makes each lot different and make the people behind it visible.

On , that shared purpose became Kerala Origins — a joint initiative and a movement for Kerala specialty coffee.

From belief to practice

Taste together. Learn together. Build recognition.

Our work begins with producers and their coffees. Conversations about harvesting, processing and drying help us understand a lot before it reaches the cupping table. Roasting and tasting give us a way to discuss its character and consider practical next steps.

We welcome producers who want to explore their coffee’s potential, including those taking their first steps towards specialty. The support begins with understanding the farm, the coffee and the help needed.

By sharing that work with roasters, brewers and buyers, we aim to create more opportunities for producers and more reasons to seek out coffee from Kerala.

Bermito’s contribution

Roasting that helps us understand the coffee.

Bermito Coffee Roasters is part of Kerala Origins from its founding. Its contribution includes curating and roasting Kerala-grown coffees, preparing samples for tasting and helping producers and visitors explore what those coffees can offer.

This work sits alongside the knowledge of the producer co-founders. A coffee’s story is built through both: the decisions made on the farm and the care taken to understand it in the cup.

Rooted here. Looking outward.

From Kerala’s farms to a wider coffee community.

Our annual programme centres on two harvest-season showcases: Kerala Origins Kochi and Kerala Origins Kozhikode. Each is a place to meet, taste and learn about the coffees and the people behind them.

Beyond Kerala, our ambition is to bring these coffees to festivals, roasters and buyers across India and internationally. The aim is lasting recognition for Kerala as an origin, with producers at the heart of that recognition.
